Blush Kennesaw: Atlanta Fashion Photography

What a fun week. I had two great shoots this week. One of which was a collaboration with Blush Kennesaw. We got together to shoot a small lookbook with some of their new arrivals for the upcoming Fall season. This shoot will go down as one of the most fun ever. We had three great models and an incredible wardrobe. We began shooting at around 6:30 and after the first look it was just rapid fire until around 10:00PM when we called it a wrap. It was great working with a team, I really loved the freedom it gave me to focus on the creative aspect of the photoshoot. I didn't have to worry about the wardrobe as Ana from Blush took complete control and absolutely killed it. In addition, the three models were just a dream to work with. I gave them each a bit of direction and they ran with it, again, allowing me to focus on creativity rather than having to worry about posing them. I was spoiled to say the least.

I shot in a different style this week, but, its just the beginning of where I am looking to take my photographic style. I'm beginning to depart from weddings and portraiture and focus soley on fashion and beauty. I wasn't sure if I wanted to shoot on a white seamless or a gray seamless for this lookbook, however, I ended up going with white as I love the versatility it gives me. Depending on how I light the white seamless, I can make it go white, gray, or completely black. Not something I could do with a gray or black background. I picked it up on Wednesday and had quite an interesting time getting it home. (See photo below)

Anywho, onto the shoot. Shot on a white seamless with 1 Alien Bee B800 into a 45-inch softwhite reflective umbrella slight camera right and high above the model(s). Shot around f/8 at 1/160 and ISO100.

And the results:

A big Thanks to all the ladies. They all did their job exceptionally well which made my job so much easier.

Cameron: Atlanta Senior Photographer

Last week was one of the busiest weeks on record for me. I had 5 shoots last week, all while getting ready to leave for New York for a week. I had two photoshoots Monday, one shoot Tuesday, one Thursday, and one Friday. I finished up the last photoshoot on Friday around 7:30 and was in route to NYC by 8:00. Needless to say, it was a stressful, yet rewarding week. One of the photoshoots on Monday was a senior photo shoot for Cameron. I'm just starting to dive into the senior market, and it is something I said I would never do, but I actually throughly enjoyed it. We met up at Peidmont park, and had plans of another location, however, due to time, and the heat, we simply did a couple outfit changes at Peidmont and made the best of it.

All these are natural light shots, as I unknowingly left my wireless trigger and receivers at the house before the shoot. Overall I am very happy with the photos and hope Cameron is just as happy with them as I am.

Kylie and Matt: Atlanta Engagement Photographer

As I mentioned in the previous post, the past few weeks have been busier than ever. A couple weeks ago I got together with Kylie and Matt in downtown Atlanta for an engagement photoshoot. It was incredibly hot, as are most days in Atlanta during the summer. But they were tireless and dealt with the heat much better than I could have imagined. And for that, I am incredibly thankful. We started the shoot around 5:30, shot for a little over an hour, and finished up right around 7:00PM. I then, left for NYC at 7:30. Thats how close I was cutting it. It was a thrill, and I would do it all over again if I had the chance. I am incredibly excited to shoot their wedding next year. They were naturals in front of the camera, and often times they would ignore me (what nerve, right?) but it made for some amazing photos. Their interaction (when they ignored me) came out beautifully in the photos.

I'm going to switch gears a bit and rather than posting the photos. I've created a small video slideshow with the images from the shoot. Enjoy.

Personal Fashion Shoot

One of the great things about the photography industry is the comradery among everyone. Sure youre going to have you're ego maniacs and jerks, but for the most part, everyone is more than willing to lend a helping hand.

After a dinner meeting, and many sleepless nights, ive begun to develop a plan. A 1 year plan, a 2 year plan and so on and so on. A plan, mainly focused on the development and advancement of my photographic career. The first step in that process included pushing myself. As a photographer, an editor, a stylist, a business person, and as a person in general. I sent out email after email to a couple of friends, most of which were my age, about collaborating together for an upcoming personal project. I wanted to rent some gear, and shoot a bit outside of my comfort zone. I rented gear I had never used before, got a couple of models, a VALS (Voice Activated Light Stand), and got to planning/shooting.

In the past, I have typically thrived off my off the cuff shooting style. I often never scout a location before a shoot, as I feel it opens my creative side. However, for this shoot, I wanted to shoot it as if my client were a magazine editor like I was shooting a fashion editorial. I am a strong believer in shooting as if you were shooting for the clients you hope to one day land. I scouted locations, created a shot list, and even a schedule. Even though the schedule quickly went out the window. This pre-production planning, especially when working with multiple people reduced the stress of the day tremendously. We shot for 8 hours last Thursday, and while I was incredibly tired, I was so thrilled with the shots we came away with. Most shots were lit from an Alien Bee B800 with a 22inch beauty dish, although some were completely lit with natural light. If you have any questions please feel free to post them in the comments below.

Here are some of my favorites. Which is your favorite?

This was pretty much the Go-To lighting setup for the entire shoot in which I lit the models using the strobe(s).
Big "Thank You" to my VALS (Voice Activated Light Stand) for holding it up for the 8 hour shoot. Whether it was on a rooftop in downtown Atlanta, or underground in a Marta station in mid-town. Oh, and sweet 3D glasses...

The above shots were shot at 135mm at 1/30th of a second. Like a boss.
